Here is the tension every tool for a trade crew lives with: the buyer is not the user. The owner pays. The technicians decide, every morning, whether the app is worth opening or whether the photos go in the group chat like they always have.
Per-seat pricing makes that worse in a specific way. Every hire raises the bill, so every owner is tempted to do the natural thing: share a login. Two apprentices on one account. "Just use Dave's." And the moment that happens, the one thing the record was for — who did this, and when — is gone. Every photo says Dave.
Within a size, an extra technician is free
FieldLog is priced in three bands — up to 3, up to 10, up to 20 technicians — and inside a band the bill does not move when you add someone. That's the whole design. A price that pays the owner to keep people off the app is a price that kills its own adoption, and it kills the accountability that makes the reports worth anything.
Office staff who only view and send reports are outside the count on every band. The bookkeeper starting doesn't change your size. The person who takes photos on jobs is the person who counts.
What happens when you grow past a band
Nothing breaks. If you add an eleventh technician on the up-to-10 size, you're moved to the next size and we show you the amount, the new size and your renewal date before you confirm. No silent raise — a silent raise is negative-option billing, and that's an FTC matter as well as a bad way to treat somebody. And never a lockout: a headcount change is not a reason for a crew to lose the ability to file evidence.
The move only ever goes up mid-period. A downward move is scheduled for the end of the period, because a mid-period downgrade would have to refund, which makes add-then-remove a way to farm credit and takes a seat off a crew mid-job.
Why every plan has every feature
Solo, Team and Crew are the same product at different sizes. We don't hold safety or proof features hostage to an upgrade. There is one checklist system, one report format, one set of exports. A feature list that differs between bands is a promise about what the money buys, and the honest version of that promise here is: the money buys headcount, nothing else.
Why Free keeps your evidence forever
The Free plan is one technician and five filed reports a month, with our branding on the report. It exists so you can prove FieldLog on real jobs before paying. What it does not do is delete anything. A storage cap with expiry was proposed and rejected: the cost of keeping a small company's photos is trivial, the report cap already bounds it, and deleting a contractor's proof breaks the only promise the product makes. If pressure is ever needed, we lock new capture. We never delete.
